Rent the runway

We all saw on Sex and the City, how Carrie's assistant rented her fancy designer bags and lately I've been receiving emails from Rent the Runway. http://www.renttherunway.com/

I must admit, it is a cool idea, but I'm not really sure if I will be doing any purse/dress renting in the near future. It is definitely a great idea for someone who would like to do some showing off at for instance a school reunion or a wedding and I thought it was worth mentioning.

Gucci Resort Wear 2012 - Days 264 & 265

I received an email from Saks Fifth Avenue with a teaser from the Gucci 2012 Resort Wear Collection and I must say, I am kinda loving it.

Just one look at these bags and shoes and I'm already excited about Spring 2012. Come on Spring!

Monique Lhuillier at Neiman Marcus

Monique Lhuillier has launched a new more affordable line of cocktail wear and evening gowns with prices ranging from $398 to $898 at Neiman Marcus called "ML Monique Lhuillier". If you are as big of a fan of Miss Lhuillier as I am and you are in the market for a new gown (or not), I highly suggest you keep this line in mind. Afterall, Monique Lhuillier at these prices is not a every day occurrence.

Funny saying

I was watching a daytime talk show make-over show the other day and they did an amazing job on the ladies. I was really impressed with their outfits and their hair was done in a way that they would actually be able to maintain it. (I find it odd that they often give people hairstyles on a make-over that they will NEVER be able to re-create - isn't that missing the point completely...)

One of the made-over ladies looked fab and she was wearing a stunning pair of killer heels. The host asked if she was uncomfortable with the height of the heels and she answered: "No, I'm fabulous. The higher the heels, the closer to God". I could not help but giggle over that .

VSA

I have discovered the most amazing jewellery at Nordstrom. Virgin, Saints and Angels (VSA) is an amazing line designed by an American and made by Mexican artisans with Swarovski crystals and precious stones. My favourite is the necklaces with the cross. I think it is so beautiful, dramatic, stylish and classy.

So pretty! I'm going to have to save some $$ to get my hands on this fabulous necklace (or beg for my b-day).

Toms

I heard about Toms a while ago. Toms stands for "Tomorrow" and basically what they do is they give a pair of shoes to a child in a developing country for every pair that they sell. It is an amazingly easy and fun way to give back and I thought it was a great idea.

Toms is now going a step further. They have started selling sunglasses and for every pair that is purchased, they will give sight to someone. What an incredible thing.

At first, I wasn't too keen on the sunglasses, because I thought it might not look too great, but I tried them on at Nordstrom and I loved them. Not only are they fun, but stylish, great-looking and funky too. Below are 2 styles:

Harpers Bazaar - Days 258 & 259

This month I must say that I really enjoyed my November issue of Harpers Bazaar. I subscribe to a lot of magazines and I must say that I just absolutely loved this edition. (with Beyonce on the cover).

The month is almost over, but if you are able to still get your hands on it, I strongly suggest you do.

The colour stories that they ran were just amazing and I can honestly say I saw at least 20 things that I really wanted in the magazine. Items were photographed and placed well, articles were interesting and all-in-all, I just really loved it. I guess I might have to continue my Harpers Bazaar subscription for another year. (the other magazines are not going to be so lucky).

CK coat

A few days ago I bought myself a new coat for the coming Winter season. I got this cool navy Calvin Klein coat for a very special price - only $80! Not bad.

Now I will not only be warm this summer in a 100% down coat, but I think it is quite stylish for such a thick, padded jacket. (it looks much nicer on than on the hanger) Believe me, in the hectically chilly Colorado Winter weather, you need a thick down coat in order to stay toasty.

Petit H

It is no secret that I am in some serious love with Hermes. The brand is just something really special with amazing quality goods that make my little fashion loving heart go pit-a-pat.

Off course I am now even more excited about the brand after hearing about their new "line" called Petit H. It isn't really a line because everything is limited edition. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it. Basically, they are making new artful objects from recycled materials. They are using unused, misshapen or defective materials to create new products. This was the brainchild of Pascale Mussard, great-granddaughter of the founder of Thierry Hermes, and I think it is a fab idea.

These products are available at the Rue de Sevres store in Paris (in December), some were available in Tokyo at one time and in October 2011, they can be found in New York and Beverly Hills. Unfortunately, since I can't make it to any of these places, my dream of owning Hermes or even Petit H will have to stay a dream for a while longer.

Stella McCartney Cuff

A few days ago, I posted a photo of a cute rose gold belt-clasp-type ring from Michael Kors and imagine my surprize when I found a gold belt-clasp-type cuff from Stella McCartney in the November edition of Harpers Bazaar.

Melikes.

Fabulous DvF fabric

I've made it clear that I do have a deep deep love for fun and quirky fabrics and this fabulous heart motive on Diane von Furstenburg's jumper is no different.

I just absolutely love it. It is so playful and yet stylish at the same time. There are also some really cool belts, dresses and bags on the website: http://www.dvf.com/must-haves/true-love/trends-hearts%2Cdefault%2Csc.html?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EM_HeartsUS_101711&utm_content=&CID=EM_HeartsUS_101711

Lovin' the new Jimmy Choos

They might be a bit over the top, but I absolutely love these peacock and screaming pink Jimmy Choos.

At the moment, you can pre-order them on the Jimmy Choo website and if I could afford them with my tiny self-imposed budget, you would have had to wrestle me away from my computer to avoid me ordering those fabulous show-stoppers. The are fun, flirty and just all in all a whole lot of fabulous!

Day number 250!!!

Today, on my 250th day of the Shop-my-closet-365 challenge, I've decided to repost the rules of the challenge just to remind myself of them:

1. I am only allowed to spend $200 per month on clothes, shoes and make-up. (what I don't spend rolls over to the next month.)

2. I may only wear what is in my closet and what the $200 can afford

3. I may only wear each outfit once during the course of this experiment - if I want to wear the same top, it must be with different bottoms

4. Only 1 outfit per day counts, so if I am dressing up for a night on the town, that outfit can count as my 1 per day

5. What I don't wear during this year, must be donated or sold (excludes cocktail dresses, since there are not many opportunities to don those in Colorado), unless off course I love it like a first-born

6. If I'm wearing a dress, accessories count as my second piece so it can be worn again. (with different shoes and accessories next time)

7. I may wear something that I have received as a gift or that I bought with a gift card (it doesn't count as part of the $200

8. I must take a photo and post it on the blog every day (unless I am somewhere where I don't have Internet access - then I must still take the daily photos and post it as soon as I can)

9. I must get my ass into shape so that more clothes will fit.

10. I must continue this experiment for 365 days.

I'm thinking I need to add another rule to the list...maybe. At the moment I fear/know that I won't be wearing all my favourite outfits before the end of the challenge, because Summer is over and due to some unfortunate weight-gain (a-whole-nother blog), I won't be able to fit in them over the next few days. In order to prevent myself from getting rid of them (hark!!!) as per rule number 5, I might just choose to lenghten the challenge instead. (yes, that is utter fear creaping up in me, making that statement, not the fact that I'm loving the craziness of this challenge, because we have a kind of a love/hate relationship). I won't make the decision right now, but, it is something to think about...

Likes and dislikes of the challenge

So, I've been doing this self-imposed Shop-my-closet-365 challenge for 249 days now and I must say, that it is not easy. Not that I thought it would be easy, but still. It is flipping difficult.

The thing that I like most is that I have created some really cool outfits that I have previously not been able to do because there wasn't a need to do so and I was probably too lazy. Yay for more creativity!

The thing I dislike most is that I am now really noticing that it is so difficult to look as stylish/cool/hip/on trend as I want to, because not everything in my closet is currently very trendy, so some days, I'm really not loving my outfits. Which sucks, but oh well, that's life. If I want those items in my closet, I better wear them.

Tomorrow is quite a big one. 250 days  of the continuing craziness which is this blog and the challenge. To myself I say, woohoo, you go girl!!!

Words of Wisdom - Jay Manual

A while ago I heard Jay Manual (director of photo shoots on America's Next Top Model) giving a fashion tip in an interview that stuck with me and now, I think I need do my bit and share this with you.

Jay said that if you look at yourself in the mirror and you really like the outfit, feel good about it and also feel good about yourself while wearing it, you should take a photo of that outfit with your cell phone and on days when you don't feel quite so fabulous, you can use that as your go-to look. It will change your mood instantly because you will look and feel like a million bucks.

Now, methinks those are some wise words. Thanks Jay.
(I'll have to start doing that next year, after the completion of the Shop-my-closet-365 challenge, since I have to force myself to wear new outfits every day. Soon, very soon!)

Giambattista Valli @ Macy's

Macy's is doing it again. They have another fabulous designer signed up to create a line for Impulse by Macy's (most recently Karl Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson) and now Giambattista Valli is doing it. I'm so excited!!!

Once again nothing is going to be priced over $150 and unlike the designer doo-da's at Target, where they only make 20 of each item, the line will run for a few months. Yay Macy's!!!

I'm kinda loving the fun and flirty party outfits that are arriving at Macy's on October 26th, just in time for all the coming festive season parties. I'm seriously loving the bright colours, bold patterns and pretty silhouettes, so I'm thinking this is a line that definitely needs to be checked out.

Oh, and by the way, did I mention that I just absolutely loved Giambattista Valli's Spring 2012 fashion show

I'm also a "Valli" girl!

DVF wrap of the month - October

Here is the great new Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress of the month for October 2011.

Not only should you buy it because it is fabulous, but an even better reason to buy it is because it is inspired by Diane's new fragrance, Diane Eau de Parfum, and the third reason (which might be the deal-breaker), is that you get a free bottle of the new fragrance when you purchase the dress. Yay!

Another favourite from Spring 2012 (days 244 & 245)

Louis Vuitton with its big giant Ferris Wheel, pretty colours and cotton candy sweetness was just amazing. Once again I was moved to happiness times a gajillion when I watched that show, so I felt it needed to be shared. I heart Marc Jacobs... I heart what he designs and the fact that he is so forward thinking in his designs. I also heart LV and the combination of the two makes me all fluffably happy.

Below is the video from Spring 2012, Louis Vuitton runway.
