I am currently reading the latest book in the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, "Mini Shopaholic" and once again I am smiling ear to ear and loving the great character, Rebecca Bloomwood.
I've been uhm-ing and a-ing about this ever since I saw the movie and I wasn't very vocal, but while reading this book, I've once again realized how extremely weak and far away from the book, the movie "Confessions of a Shopaholic" was. Becky was portrayed as nothing but a bimbo airhead instead of a great, funny, layered character and the whole recession plot, which was never in the book, was taken too far and I hated every moment of it. Why? Whyyyyyy???? Why would they spoil a great thing? I had images in my head, years ago of myself acting the role of Becky and how I would have to do it to be true to the character in the book and they just completely failed in this movie.
So, if you have ever watched the movie and not read the books, don't let the movie put you off. The books were great. I have not yet read the Americanised versions, so I can't comment on them, but the original books of: "Secret dreamworld of a shopaholic" and "A shopaholic Abroad" were just fab!
Smart! And I totally agree, hated the movie. Can you say shallow? Even my husband read (and loved) the original books!
